●A beautiful coast city in South China
Shenzhen is located south of Tropic of Cancer, adjacent Hong Kong at the other side of a river. With a subtropical marine climate, Shenzhen has a mean temperature of 22.4oC in the year. It is full of beautiful flowers and green grass all the year round, with a green coverage as high as 45% of its total area, 1948.69 square kilometers. It is the winner of IRPRA “International Garden City” and UNEP“ Global 500 Roll of Honor 2002” awards.
Shenzhen is the first special economic zone in China. Thanks to over 2 decades of fast development, which has yielded the highest per capita GDP in mainland China, Shenzhen is today one of the most robust, fastest growing and best performing cities in the country.
Since 1986, Shenzhen has established and maintained sister-city relations with more than a dozen foreign cities/regions, including Huston (US), Brescia and Torino (Italy), Brisbane (Australia), Poznan (Poland), Vienne (France), Kingston (capital of Jamaica), Lome (capital of Togo), Nuremberg (Germany), Walloon Brabant (Belgium) and Ibaraki(Japan), Kavala (Greece), Gwangyang (South Korea), Luxor (Egypt), and Samara (Russia).
●One of the most important hi-tech manufacturing and R&D bases in China
Hi-tech is the No.1 pillar industry of Shenzhen. From 1995, the output value of hi-tech industries of Shenzhen has maintained an annual growth rate of more than 40%. In 2008, the output value of hi-tech products reached RMB 870 billion, up by 14.7% over 2007, more than 510 billion with autonomous IPRs. The exports of hi-tech products were USD79.4 billion, an increase of 9.5% from the previous year. Within 100km from the west to the east across the city, 9 hi-tech industrial parks, plus a university town and an ecological agriculture area are either under construction or being planned. An inter-connected hi-tech industrial corridor with complete functions, well-developed traffic and communication infrastructures is on the rise to enable industrialization of the hi-tech sector, R&D and higher education.
●An innovative city with powerful attraction and influence over the inland regions of the country
As the only city adjacent Hong Kong in the mainland, Shenzhen serves as a bridge between Hong Kong and the inland regions. Today, it is the window and base for financing, international trade, technology transfer and human resource training of the inland regions. Its export value has topped all other cities in the country for 16 consecutive years. With the ability to provide strong support to industries, Shenzhen is known for the complete array of market elements, a sound financial system and a developed market economy. A mechanism for innovation is basically in place.
Within the 50km radium of Shenzhen, there are 6 major industrial chains for computer and peripheral equipment, communication equipment, digital audio/video products, FPD, software and bio-pharmaceutical. Among the Global 500, over 150 have manufacturing bases and research centers in the city.
Shenzhen is home to national trade markets of a number of industries, including electronics, computer, furniture, clothing, watch, jewelry and toy.
More than 180 domestic financial institutions, including banks, securities companies and insurance companies have outlets in Shenzhen. Shenzhen Stock Exchange, one of the two biggest stock exchanges in mainland China, is planning to open the second board market for the small- and medium-sized enterprises. With the booming of the venture capital industry, Shenzhen has the largest angel capital institution in China. The number of angel investment authorities, the total volume of angel investment capital and the number of investment projects in Shenzhen all rank first in China. Thanks to an open, absorbing, innovative immigration culture, Shenzhen is a dynamic city for business development.
●Convenient traffic, booming catering, travel, entertainment and commerce sectors
The only city in China with air, land and sea ports, Shenzhen is a traffic hub in the coast regions in South China. Shenzhen has opened more than 160 ocean container shipping routes, 137 domestic and 36 international air lines. Guangshen and Shenshan expressways and Jingjiu, Jingguang and Guangshen railways connect Shenzhen with inner land cities. Trains travel between Shenzhen and Hong Kong’s Hung Hom Station at a 5-minute interval for a journey of 40 minutes.
Shenzhen is a paradise with local food styles from around the country, as well as the food cultures of the western world and Southeast Asia. It is home to 359 hotels, including 179 star-rated ones, capable of accommodating 100,000 guests each day. Subway Line 1 and Line 4 run across the city and connect at SZCEC.
