  A beautiful coast city in South China

  Shenzhen is located south of the Tropic of Cancer, adjacent Hong Kong on the other side of a river. With a subtropical marine climate, Shenzhen has a mean temperature of 22.4 ℃ in the year. It is covered in flowers and green grass all the year round. As its green coverage is as high as 45% of the total area, 1948.69 square kilometers, Shenzhen is awarded IRPRA “International Garden City” and UNEP “Global 500 Roll of Honor for Environmental Achievement”.

  Shenzhen is the first special economic zone in China. Over the past two decades, its fast development has yielded the highest per capita GDP (per-capita GDP is USD 13,153 in 2009) on the Chinese mainland. Shenzhen today is one of the most robust, fastest growing and best performing cities in the country.

  As the only domestic city with sea, air and land ports, Shenzhen has the largest number of ports and has become one of the major gateways between China and the outside world. With its strong economic growth and modernized urban infrastructure, Shenzhen ranks first among the inland cities concerning comprehensive competitiveness. In the latest Global Financial Centers Index (GFCI) report released in 2009, Shenzhen is on the list for the first time, ranking fifth around the world.

  One of the most important hi-tech manufacturing and R&D bases in China

  Shenzhen has four pillar industries--hi-tech, finance, logistics and culture. Based on its development in hi-tech and advanced manufacturing industry, Shenzhen strives to build up an innovative system for modern industries supported by the modern services.

  Hi-tech is the first pillar industry in Shenzhen. Since 1995, the output value of its hi-tech industry has maintained an annual growth rate of over 40%. In 2009, the output value of hi-tech products reached RMB 850 .781 billion, among which over RMB506.210billion are generated by proprietary IPR. The total exports of hi-tech products were USD 85.048 billion, 52.5% of 2009 shenzhen total export trade volume

  Along 100 km from the west to the east in the city, 9 hi-tech industrial parks, a university town and an ecological agricultural area are being planned or under construction. An inter-connected hi-tech industrial corridor with complete functions, well-developed traffic and communication infrastructures is on the rise to enable industrialization of the hi-tech sector, R&D and higher education.

  An innovative city with great appeal to and substantial influence on the inland regions of the country

  As the only city adjacent Hong Kong on the mainland, Shenzhen serves as a bridge between Hong Kong and the inland regions. Today, it is the window and the base for financing, international trade, technology transfer and human resources training of the inland regions. Its export value has topped all other cities in the country for 16 consecutive years.

  Concerning its ability to provide strong support to industries, Shenzhen is known for its complete array of market elements, a sound financial system and a developed market economy. A mechanism for innovation is basically in place.

  Within the area in the radium of 50km around Shenzhen, there are 6 major industrial chains for computers and peripheral equipments, communication equipments, digital audio/video products, FPD, software and bio-pharmaceuticals. Among the Global 500, over 150 have established manufacturing bases and research centers in the city.

  Shenzhen is also home to national trade markets of electronics, computers, furniture, clothing, watches, jewelry and toys, etc.

  More than 180 domestic financial institutions, including banks, securities and insurance companies have outlets in Shenzhen. Shenzhen Stock Exchange, one of the two biggest stock exchanges on the Chinese mainland, is planning to open the second board market for the small- and medium-sized enterprises. As the venture capital booms, Shenzhen has the largest angel capital institution in China. Shenzhen ranks all first in China in terms of number and total capital of VC institutions and number of investment projects. In addition, due to its open, inclusive and innovative immigration culture, Shenzhen has become a dynamic city for business development.

  Developed transportation, prosperous catering, tourism, entertainment services and business

  

  As the only city with air, land and sea ports in China, Shenzhen is a traffic hub in the coastal regions of South China. Shenzhen has opened more than 160 ocean container shipping routes, 137 domestic and 36 international air lines. Guangzhou-Shenzhen and Shenzhen-Shantou expressways and Beijing-Kowloon, Beijing-Guangzhou and Guangzhou-Shenzhen railways connect Hong Kong, Shenzhen with inland cites. Trains travel between Shenzhen and Hong Kong’s Hung Hom Station at a 5-minute interval for a journey of 40 minutes.

  Shenzhen is a paradise with various local foods from around the country, as well as the food cultures of the western world and Southeast Asia. It is home to 359 hotels, including 179 star-rated ones, capable of accommodating 100,000 guests each day. Subway Line 1 and Line 4 run across the city and connect at SZCEC.
