Successful 20-year partnership with Shenzhen, China's Silicon Valley

At the initiative of Nuremberg Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Middle Franconia, a delegation from Shenzhen visited Nuremberg for the first time in October 1994 in order to conduct preparatory talks to explore the possibilities of a collaboration. In 1997, this initial contact resulted in the official signing of a partnership agreement between the special economic zone and the cities of Erlangen, Fürth, Nuremberg and Schwabach as well as the districts of Erlangen-Höchstadt, Fürth, Nürnberger Land and Roth.

The economic region of Nuremberg has now been partnered with the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen for 20 years. To mark the 20th anniversary of this partnership, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce organised cooperation forums for two corporate delegations from Shenzhen which were attended by more than 200 entrepreneurs.

The special economic zone of Shenzhen also took the opportunity at the 13th Asia-Pacific Forum Bavaria in Fürth to showcase itself to more than 400 participants as a dynamic, innovative megacity.

The European Metropolitan Region of Nuremberg offers solutions to future social and technological issues in such areas as intelligent mobility, digital health management, networked production and sustainable energy systems. The Chinese government's "One Belt, One Road" initiative is also part of the cooperation partners' work programme.
