2. Chinese satellite captures first Antarctic volcanic eruption

The Haiyang-1D satellite recently captured the eruption of the Mount Erebus volcano, which is located on the western half of Ross Island in Antarctica, according to the National Satellite Ocean Application Service.

It is the first time that a domestic satellite has captured an Antarctic volcanic eruption.

3. Second group of Yaogan-31 remote sensing satellites launched

A Long March 4C rocket carrying the second group of China's Yaogan-31 remote sensing satellites was launched from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Northwest China's Gansu province at 12:47 pm (Beijing time) on Jan 29.

It was the 359th flight mission of the Long March fleet.

Developed by the China Academy of Space Technology, a CASC subsidiary, the satellites are tasked with scientific experiments, electromagnetic environment surveys, as well as land and marine resource investigations.

5. China's first solar probe expected to launch in 2022

China's first solar probe, the Advanced Space-based Solar Observatory (ASO-S), is about to enter its prototype development stage. It is expected the solar probe will be launched into space in the first half of 2022, marking the country's first-ever mission to explore the sun.

The satellite will observe the solar magnetic field, solar flares and coronal mass ejections in an attempt to explore their formation and interrelationships. It will record, in detail, the "solar storm" of the Solar Cycle 25, and forecast its possible effects on Earth.

The Solar Cycle 25 is now underway and expected to reach its peak in 2025.
