1. China has 22 COVID-19 vaccines in clinical trials

 

The National Medical Products Administration has approved 22 COVID-19 vaccines to enter clinical trials, granted four vaccines conditional marketing approval, and authorized three vaccines for emergency use in China.

 

As of July 9, China has supplied more than 480 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the international community, provided vaccine assistance to nearly 100 countries, and exported vaccines to over 50 countries, becoming the world's largest supplier of vaccines to foreign countries.

 

2. Chinese scientists make medical breakthroughs

 

After eight years of research, scientists from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) have revealed the pathologic mechanism of pre-engraftment syndrome (PES), a condition which occurs after umbilical cord blood transplantation. A treatment strategy was also provided for patients with severe PES.

 

It has important significance to further improve the curative effect of umbilical cord blood transplantation and promote its widespread application.

 

3. China launches five new satellites

 

China sent five satellites into planned orbits from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in North China's Shanxi province on July 3.

The satellite Jilin-1 01B, Xingshidai-10 and three Jilin-1 Gaofen 03D satellites were launched by a Long March-2D rocket at 10:51 am (Beijing Time).

 

This was the 376th flight mission of the Long March rocket series.

 

4. New glass can repair skin damage

 

Chinese researchers, relying on the static magnetic field experimental device, recently created the nanoscale borate bioactive glass, which greatly reduces the biological toxicity of the glass and significantly improves its biological compatibility.

 

The glass is expected to be the next generation skin wound repair dressing.

 

5. Chinese astronauts step out of spacecraft

 

The Shenzhou XII mission crew engaged in China's first extravehicular activity in 13 years to perform about seven hours of work outside the core module of China's permanent space station.

 

After hours of preparation in the early morning on July 4, Major General Liu Boming floated out of the module, named Tianhe, or Harmony of Heavens, at 8:11 am to begin the challenging spacewalk as the module orbited Earth at an altitude of about 390 kilometers. Senior Colonel Tang Hongbo stayed in the air lock to assist Liu and then also emerged from the spacecraft at 11:02 am.
