At the 25th China Hi-Tech Forum, Wei Liang, deputy head of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, delivered a keynote speech, providing insights into the current state of China's information and communication technology and a glimpse into the future development of 6G.

With over 3.18 million 5G base stations as of the end of October, China leads the way globally in internet access conditions, said Wei. He also added that the price of 5G modules has been reduced to below 500 yuan ($70), which drives the widespread adoption of 5G technology.

5G is now evolving into 6G, Wei noted. Besides the strengths of 5G, including its low latency, high reliability, and large bandwidth, 6G will introduce new features such as immersive communication and even lower latency, which will support the integration of industrial internet and AI.

The future development of China's network infrastructure will further promote network autonomy, automation, and intelligence. Focus will also be put on combining network infrastructure with AI and big data, explained Wei.
