Chen Liming is a transformational and transboundary business leader, with a track record of 30+ years in MNCs across a range of industries and diversified cultures. He aim to led corporate transformation, business turnaround, performance improvement, and governance enhancement.
Chen Liming is currently the Chairman of IBM Great China Group, and accountable for overall performance of IBM Great China Group (GCG) across multiple business units. Since he joined IBM in 2015, Mr. Chen has designed and implemented ‘IBM Greater China Group Strategy’ and 'Made with China' initiatives, adapted to the new business era. He leads the transformation of the traditional core business of GCG, and at the same time drives the new strategic initiatives of cognitive solutions and cloud platform. He fosters the culture of 'One Team, One Shared Goal' to encourage co-creation across business areas and functions. Driven process simplification to make the company more client and market centric, as well as enhanced governance by creating a responsible culture. Mr. Chen is also a member of IBM’s Performance Team and Acceleration Team.
Before he joined IBM, Chen Liming served BP China as the President of Great China Region in 2008, at the same time served the Chairman of BP (China) Holding Company. He chaired the BP China Executive Committee (CEC) to coordinate executive management across businesses areas and functions, developed the local strategy and the very first cross-BP Group that laid the foundations for business growth. Mr. Chen also brought BP upstream back to the country; and led the successful entry and approvals from partners and government, into deep water acreage, developed a pipeline of opportunities with Chinese national oil companies.
Chen Liming started his career as an assistant researcher in 1982, and between 1991 and 1994, He became a senior research fellow at Singapore Institute of Standards & Industrial Research in food technology. In 1994, he joined Condea Chemie GmbH in Singapore and later moved back to China as the Deputy General Manager of Condea China Chemical Company, after that he has served as General Manager and Managing Director. Due to Mr. Chen successfully turned the troubled company within a year after being the managing director, He was appointed as Executive Vice President of Sasol China in 2006.
Over the past years, Mr. Chen has served on many boards of directors: China Aviation Oil Company (Singapore); Cornell University China Advisory Board; China Eastern Science and Technology University, and others. He was an honorary professor at the University of Edinburgh, and appointed to be the Senior International Advisor to the Governor of Shanxi Province in 2016.
Chen Liming obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Xinjiang Shihezi University in 1982 and his Master’s degree from Cornell University in 1989. He completed the Advance Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2003 and MCB class at HBS in 2013. Now Mr. Chen currently live in Beijing with his family.
