A symposium themed on "Investment and Business Opportunities in Spanish Technology" was held at Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center on Nov 14, with more than 100 domestic and foreign guests in attendance.

They included Guo Jingwei, deputy director of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shenzhen Committee; Carlos Tortola, economic and commercial consul of the Consulate General of Spain in Guangzhou; Carlos Quintana, chief representative for China in the Spain Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology; as well as business representatives from Telefonica, BATZ, INDRA and La Liga.

Discussions covered a wide range of subjects including Spanish research and development systems, bilateral technical cooperation projects, global cooperation in the digital age, automobile aerodynamics, air traffic management technology and how to make La Liga fans closer through technology.

Tortola explained some of the latest Spanish foreign investment policies at the symposium. The direct foreign investment volume in Spain has reached 36 billion euros ($41 billion), to which China was a major contributor.

According to him, the entrance to Spain is equivalent to accessing a market of 500 million consumers, opening a channel to Latin America and Europe, as well as an opportunity to take advantage of the country's edge in human resources, taxation and law.

It is expected that Spain and Shenzhen will seek common ground through the symposium to lay a solid foundation for future bilateral cooperation, said Guo Jingwei.
